A few years back one of my close friends, and actually former supervisor, Becky Sain, shared that she and a partner had plans to open a new venue in the upstate. Their idea grew to include not only hosting, but offering a pristine and elegant old south style home set in the quaint historic town of Ware Shoals, South Carolina. Now this is no ordinary home- it is actually the childhood home of Becky’s partner, Larry Henderson. In fact, this home has been a part of the local area’s framework for many years, with it’s larger than life traditional brick presence and flowering gardens which beckon visitors to take a peek into life generations ago. Former First Lady of the home, Dot Hipps’s (Larry Henderson’s late Mother) love of antiques and tradition showcase the house, especially at Christmas time, with garland adorned bannisters and themed trees accenting the most treasured time of year for many. Therefore, the venue serves not only as a tribute to the late Mrs. Hipp’s life, but as a legacy to her children and the future.
Riegel Hall officially opened for business in 2023, with multiple plans for the area to host meetings or baby showers, small weddings or special picture memories, as well as providing highlights, memories and events for the community itself. One such planned event is for December 7th and 8th, when Riegel Hall opens fully dressed for the holidays to host its’ second annual High Tea from 3:00pm-4:30pm. Reservations are required and tickets for $35.00 dollars include a palate of holiday goodies and a wide variety of teas to commemorate the upcoming Holiday season.
There have been countless events already, with some new ones forthcoming in the books. In fact, I hear that there is going to be a local Charity Masquerade Ball in early 2025. Less than a week ago, Ware Shoals High School senior football players showed up for a photo shoot, because they wanted to take pictures at the venue. There have been events centered on seasonal decorating items to make, wine tastings and Charcuterie Board Classes. Check out the website for more information. There you will see pictures from the ribbon cutting, past wedding celebrations, wine tastings, showers and more. This well-kept hidden gem will not be a secret for long, as individuals looking for that special place to host an event with beautiful grounds, a large welcoming outdoor fireplace and a winding drive become inspired with the traditional scope of elegance. Ware Shoals is about a twenty-minute drive from Greenwood, forty-five minutes from Anderson or Greenville, and an hour from Clemson.
