About August – Editors Letter

Here we are; another month has flown by again. August is upon us. Does that mean that the cooler temps are almost here? Probably not, but no need to “sweat it.” We have some great articles about keeping cooler and bringing Fall into your life, even if it won’t feel like it anytime soon.

I almost feel bad for August, as it has no significant fun things for most. I say most, as I have dear friends, family, and my husband, who all get to celebrate another trip around the sun. For me, August means we are closer to the Fall and the fun holidays, and that small, small chance we will see snow! In all fairness, this month does conjure up some good things like thoughts of football season, back to school, and hopefully (fingers crossed) the crisper mornings around the corner. Speaking of school – be sure to read our two articles pertaining to school, the one short one about a “long” reaching “tail,” McLees’ Rocky Snake, and our Back to School Tips.

It’s not too late to take a quick summer trip within a tank of gas away, so why not head to Amelia Island? Last month I shared our fabulous stay at The Ritz Carlton located on Amelia Island. This month in my Tank Away Getaway, I share some fun adventures to experience while visiting this beautiful island paradise. From a fast-paced and thrilling Backwater Cat Adventure to a serene, romantic, and relaxing sunset boat trip on Her Money, you will surely find an adventure that fits your desires.

The South is full of fascinating and aspiring individuals, a few of which we cover this month. Our cover person, our Person to Watch, is a culinary star in his own right – read all about Chef Michael Sibert, from his humble start to his appearance on the Food Network to his booming Upstate restaurant. But he’s not the only star. Read all about a couple of Special Olympians that are superstars in other ways.
