Small Businesses Making Health and Wellness Convenient

Health and Wellness is all the rage these days. But for busy people it can be a struggle to prioritize either of these. A combination of eating healthy, destressing, and feeling good on the inside and outside, if we can find all or some of these things in the same place, we can get closer to making health and wellness easier to achieve. In this month’s small business series, we are featuring 2 businesses that are doing just that.

Glam Beauty Bar and Spa
502 N Main St, Suite F
Anderson, SC 29621

Owned by Anderson native Ashlee Perkins, Glam Beauty Bar and Spa is a full service experience offering massage therapy, body treatments, waxing, pedicures, eyelash service, makeup services, and spray tans. They have a Nurse Practitioner who offers injectables and non surgical rejuvenation and carry product lines for skin care and makeup.

Perkins finished massage school in 2001 and immediately began working in salons and spas. She established Glam in 2017 after noticing the need for a “one stop beauty shop” in Anderson. She envisioned Glam as a place where you can glamorize in one spot with total beauty solutions for every need.

“When you walk in our door, you are on vacation. We are here to spend our time meeting your needs and exceeding your expectations,” says Perkins.

Glam is the first beauty bar and spa of its kind in Anderson, and the staff wants to make every client’s experience unique and memorable. Glam’s mission is to consistently bring new beauty ideas, by keeping up with current trends and staying up to date on best practices. Their promise to clients is to give attention to the details of service and to maintain the highest standard in the cleanliness of their beauty bar and spa.

Glam is now located in their new building in downtown Anderson. Their new home is in the same building as Bradbury Bistro and Level II Salon.

“We are excited to move to beautiful downtown Anderson! Our new location is in the middle of all the new, exciting businesses that are opening in the heart of Anderson and we are thrilled to be a part of that,” says Perkins.

Lean Kitchen
2909 N Main St.
Anderson, SC 29621
(in Pruitt Shopping Center)

Providing healthy meals for busy people, Lean Kitchen is a family owned and operated business that makes it easy to eat healthy on the go. Tara Hawkins and her husband are the proud owners of Lean Kitchen and their son is the manager of the Anderson store that they opened in October 2021. In May 2022, the Hawkins family opened a second location in Clemson.

After a 23 year career at Anmed, Hawkins decided to make a transition to entrepreneurship. Inspired by seeing the day to day struggles of individuals with hypertension and diabetes during her time at Anmed, and her own interest in fitness and a healthy lifestyle, Hawkins began looking into business models that promote health and wellness. She discovered the Lean Kitchen franchise and decided to jump right in.

“At Lean Kitchen, we offer fresh, healthy meals that still have plenty of flavor. Our meals are already cooked, so all you have to do is pop it in the microwave for a minute to a minute and a half and you are ready to eat,” says Hawkins.

Lean Kitchen is the only healthy, on the go meal prep company in town. Nothing is frozen and all meals are individual portions. Some customers will even heat their meals in the store’s microwave and eat them on the go.

“Everyone is busy. I was a busy soccer mom who didn’t want to eat chicken nuggets at 9 pm. Lean Kitchen fits into a busy schedule that prioritizes healthy eating,” says Hawkins.

Keeping with the theme of ease and convenience, Hawkins kept that in mind when choosing Lean Kitchen’s location in Pruitt Shopping Center. She strategically chose this location because it is as central a location as possible and people going home in several different directions will pass by.

“Whether you are turning left to go toward Hwy 81 or turning right to go toward Hwy 28 or 24, you will go right past us on your way home,” says Hawkins.

As for the future of Lean Kitchen, Hawkins and her family plan to open a third location in Anderson County.
