We wanted to introduce you to Steven Hawkins. Hawkins is a freelance writer from Greenville SC. What makes Hawkins so special? Since his 2014 Car accident he has been able to announce all his extended family and friends’ birthdays on the radio and write editorials with some of the largest newspapers in South Carolina.
It was almost nine years ago back in November 2014 Hawkins had a major car accident on Woodruff Road in Greenville SC. He fractured his pelvis and had two fractured legs in the accident. He was hospitalized and was a medical resident at Magnolia place rehabilitation center near Simpsonville SC for some time. He was able to go back home on March 2015 and went to VBS physical therapy center now Select Center. While he was at VBS physical he wrote letters to the editor for various newspapers and wrote his seventh editorial letter July 2015 entitled “Support Local communities” in the Anderson Independent Mail.
His story is a very remarkable one, because since he started his recovery, and to this day he has now written 125 letters to the editor and blogs and guest columns. In addition to the numerous letters, Hawkins also collected 75 of his earlier letters to the editor and other writings and had them published by AuthorHouse publishers. The book “Letters from South Carolina” can be purchased on Amazon.
Since 2018 Hawkins has arranged to have close to 145 Birthday shout outs on several local radio stations, for family members and others that are close to his heart. Some of those radio and TV stations include 107.3 Jamz, B93.7 FM, Hot 98.1 FM, 93.3 The Planet, and Earth FM 103.3 FM, WSPA TV, Fox Carolina, 96.3 FM The Block, 94.5 The Answer, Word 98.9 FM, 105.5 FM The Roar, WQUL 101.7 FM Woodruff, and Magic 106.3 FM.
The recent blogs and small newspapers that he has written to include the Lexington Ledger, Greenwood Today, iOn Greenville, Charleston Grit, Clinton Chronicle, and the Walterboro Press and Standard.
