Poets love to write about heartfelt occasions such as Valentine’s Day, vacations to the coast or the mountains, and nature. Here local poet Ann Ramsey tells in perfect Shakespearean sonnet form of special gatherings in her home – the ambiance and traditions – during Yuletide.
Family Christmas
Regal tree adorned with tinsel and lights
Fireplace crackling with warm, inviting fire
Presents wrapped neatly in colors so bright
The array of gifts fuels each child’s desire
Feast on the table made by loving hands
Turkey and dressing tempting the tastebuds
Special moments, forgetting life’s demands
Leave dirty dishes in a sink of suds.
Albums stuffed with photos yellowed by age
Bringing smiles and memories from the past
Friends and family filling every page
Capturing feelings that were meant to last
As time is shared, new memories are made
Time marches on, but memories don’t fade
