The goal of summer camps is to allow campers to experience new things, learn new skills, and make memories that will last a lifetime. Let’s look into some summer camps local to South Carolina that accomplish just that!
Camp Sertoma of South Carolina

Camp Sertoma of South Carolina was founded by the Sertoma Club in 1969. Camp Sertoma is a beautiful week-long residential camp on Pendleton’s outskirts in Anderson County. This camp is open to all underprivileged and hearing/speech-impaired children between the ages of 7 and 13. The staff makes endless efforts to ensure all the campers have fun and try new things. These new things consist of but are not limited to archery, sailing, swimming, canoeing, climbing tower, and fishing. While still encouraging campers to have fun with their new experiences, the staff still prioritizes safety; maintaining a staff-to-camper ratio of 1:3 and 24-hour supervision. Campers are provided with 3 nourishing meals a day, as well as comfortable and cozy cabins that also have staff supervision.

Camp Chatuga

Camp Chatuga is a beautiful summer camp that aims to bring children closer to god through their relationships and the nature surrounding them, make their campers feel safe and comfortable, and teach skills that campers will use for the rest of their lives. The camp was built around a lake that is surrounded by 60 acres of land featuring beautiful views of the national forest of the Blue Ridge Mountains. At Camp Chatuga, campers choose their own daily schedule out of the over 30 available, which gives them a feeling of independence. Some of the activities the camp offers include horseback riding, swimming, water skiing, diving, and disc golf. The activities offered at Camp Chatuga open various opportunities for campers to enhance their prior interests and try new things along the way. Camp Chatuga is available for 1-4 week sessions during the summer!

Camp Canaan

Camp Canaan is a Christian-centered summer camp with the goal to provide specialized outdoor experiences that are also able to bring campers closer to God as well as each other. Camp Canaan is located on a 100-acre island in the Catawba River which provides hundreds of stunning views for campers and staff. This camp has three different programs: Day Camps (ages 5-8, 9-week program), Resident Camps (overnight summer camp), and Teen Camps (challenge and exploration). All three programs have the mutual goal to bring campers joy and enhance their faith. The entire staff takes pride in making the camo experience memorable and transformative.
